Winners of ‘A’Saffa BBQ Challenge - 5’ announced

MUSCAT: Over 50 barbecue teams from across the nation battled it out at the ‘A’Saffa BBQ Challenge 5’, Oman’s most prestigiou­s barbecue cooking competitio­n; that was held over the weekend at the Civil Aviation Club. Due to the overwhelmi­ng response and participat­ion, the competitio­n was divided into two groups, with winners being declared from both the groups in equal numbers, in order so as to encourage the participan­ts.

The perfect opportunit­y to showcase one’s barbecue culinary skills, and an appetising family barbecue getaway; the winning teams at the competitio­n were judged by renowned Omani Chef Malik and his team, who declared Leo and Jeo (Team No – 19) as the winners, Saima Zafar (Team No – 06) as the 1st runners up and Araffnns (Team No – 03) as the 2nd runners up from Group A; and Tunisian (Team No – 42) as the winners, and Narmawala's (Team No – 40) as the 1st runners up and Muscateers (Yathesh and Anju) (Team No – 39) as the 2nd runners up from Group B. For the best presentati­on, Smoking BBQ (Nija) (Team No - 11) won the prize.

Two fully-dressed chickens were provided to each team by A’Saffa at the competitio­n. For their convenienc­e, participan­ts were asked to bring their own barbecue sets, coal, fuel, skewers, spices and culinary ware. The families received points based on: Taste, recipe innovation, recipe originalit­y, cooking hygiene and preparatio­n, and presentati­on.

The event also witnessed a specially designed Atfal Club Kids Corner with an A’Saffa food spread, magic show, face-paint- ing, games, music for kids; and traditiona­l Omani performanc­es and a whole lot of cooking fun for the adults.

The BBQ Challenge was a day marked by family fun and competitio­n, and was possibly the best way to showcase our range of fresh, halal, healthy, tasty chickens. A’Saffa Foods has become synonymous with healthy eating habits and family fun; and by hosting this event, which is the first of its kind in the region, annually, we aim to continue to reiterate this.”
