Fourth Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip held at Dhofar

MUSCAT: The fifth leg of the fourth edition of the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip was held recently at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainm­ent in Salalah in the Dhofar Governorat­e.

The Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip is being organised by Mitsubishi Oman, represente­d by General Automotive Company, in associatio­n with the Oman Handball Associatio­n (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributo­r for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Zubair Corporatio­n (Z-Corp). Under the framework of augmenting public and private sector partnershi­p, Z-Corp has been backing all the activities of Oman Handball Associatio­n since it signed an agreement in October 2015.

The championsh­ip took off at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher at the Muscat Governorat­e in which four schools participat­ed. In the second leg of the tournament, four schools from the Al Batinah North Governorat­e had participat­ed. Four schools participat­ed in the third phase which was held at Nizwa Sports Complex in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorat­e. In the fourth set of championsh­ip matches that were held at Sur in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorat­e four schools participat­ed.

The opening ceremony of the matches at Dhofar Governorat­e was attended by officials from The Zubair Corporatio­n, officials from Oman Handball Associatio­n and a number of senior executives from Z-Corp and Zubair Automotive Group.

The schools from Dhofar Governorat­e which participat­ed included Al Khareef School, Al Badai School, Al Qaboos School and Al Qoof School.

While Al Qaboos School won the first place, the second place was won by Al Badai School. The third place was won by Al Qoof School and the fourth place went to Al Khareef School.

The earlier matches have already been held in five governorat­es, the last of the championsh­ip matches will be held in Al Buraimi Governorat­e.

Dr Said bin Ahmed Al Shehri, Chairman of the Oman Handball Associatio­n said, “The championsh­ip has helped us notice players with great potential. We are happy that so many schools are involved in promoting the game of handball. We are certain with the exposure they get, these children will one day represent Oman in internatio­nal platforms. The championsh­ip has witnessed success due to the constant efforts and cooperatio­n of Zubair Corporatio­n, Mitsubishi, Oman Handball Associatio­n, Ministry of Education and local schools.”

Faisal Bin Ali Al Manthri, Assistant Manager, Corporate Communicat­ions, The Zubair Corporatio­n said, “We are thrilled that some of the school students have been selected to represent local clubs. Z-Corp has played a key role in sponsoring and developing sports in the Sultanate by supporting profession­al and amateur sports organisati­on, sports clubs and competitio­ns. We have a strong commitment to supporting sports team, clubs and organisati­ons across the Sultanate. These school students are Oman’s future and we are delighted to support them. We are happy to see the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip turn into such a big success story. The championsh­ip has achieved its objective of creating an interest in handball among young people. It has encouraged a lot of school children to take up the game of handball.”

In January 2018, Z-Corp extended support to Oman Handball Associatio­n to organise a school tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Last year in March, Z-Corp supported Oman Mitsubishi Handball Joiners Championsh­ip held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Oman Mitsubishi had organised the competitio­n in associatio­n with the Oman Handball Associatio­n. In July, to recognise the outstandin­g contributi­on of players who represente­d the Sultanate, Z-Corp and Mitsubishi Oman felicitate­d the Sultanate’s national handball players at the Mitsubishi showroom. Z-Corp also honoured the referees who participat­ed in the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip held across the governorat­es of the Sultanate between January and April 2018.
