Fourth Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship held at Dhofar

MUSCAT: The fifth leg of the fourth edition of the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship was held recently at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah in the Dhofar Governorate.
The Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship is being organised by Mitsubishi Oman, represented by General Automotive Company, in association with the Oman Handball Association (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributor for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp). Under the framework of augmenting public and private sector partnership, Z-Corp has been backing all the activities of Oman Handball Association since it signed an agreement in October 2015.
The championship took off at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher at the Muscat Governorate in which four schools participated. In the second leg of the tournament, four schools from the Al Batinah North Governorate had participated. Four schools participated in the third phase which was held at Nizwa Sports Complex in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. In the fourth set of championship matches that were held at Sur in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate four schools participated.
The opening ceremony of the matches at Dhofar Governorate was attended by officials from The Zubair Corporation, officials from Oman Handball Association and a number of senior executives from Z-Corp and Zubair Automotive Group.
The schools from Dhofar Governorate which participated included Al Khareef School, Al Badai School, Al Qaboos School and Al Qoof School.
While Al Qaboos School won the first place, the second place was won by Al Badai School. The third place was won by Al Qoof School and the fourth place went to Al Khareef School.
The earlier matches have already been held in five governorates, the last of the championship matches will be held in Al Buraimi Governorate.
Dr Said bin Ahmed Al Shehri, Chairman of the Oman Handball Association said, “The championship has helped us notice players with great potential. We are happy that so many schools are involved in promoting the game of handball. We are certain with the exposure they get, these children will one day represent Oman in international platforms. The championship has witnessed success due to the constant efforts and cooperation of Zubair Corporation, Mitsubishi, Oman Handball Association, Ministry of Education and local schools.”

In January 2018, Z-Corp extended support to Oman Handball Association to organise a school tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Last year in March, Z-Corp supported Oman Mitsubishi Handball Joiners Championship held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Oman Mitsubishi had organised the competition in association with the Oman Handball Association. In July, to recognise the outstanding contribution of players who represented the Sultanate, Z-Corp and Mitsubishi Oman felicitated the Sultanate’s national handball players at the Mitsubishi showroom. Z-Corp also honoured the referees who participated in the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship held across the governorates of the Sultanate between January and April 2018.
