MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry completed the annual industrial survey of medium and large industrial establishments for the year 2017, which was conducted in 2018 and targeted 963 industrial establishments.
The annual industrial survey is aimed at providing an integrated and up-to-date database on the industrial sector of the Sultanate. The data of the survey is used for development planning, as well as development programmes and policy making.
Ahmad Bin Harib Al Yaqoubi, Head of Industrial Analysis and Publishing Department in the Directorate of the Industrial Information, said: “The annual industrial survey is carried out in various governorates of the Sultanate to collect data over the operational industrial establishments in the Sultanate which had industrial registrations with an investment cost of OMR5,000 and above and have nine workers. This was to collect industrial data of the sector for the fiscal year 2017.”
He said that all data would be treated with strict confidentiality and will be used only for the purposes of planning and studies in accordance with the Statistics Act issued under Royal Decree No. 29/2001. The survey form is distributed to the industrial establishments through the data collector, who helped the industrial establishments in filling out the survey form and providing the required information. The data of the industrial surveys makes an important base on which the government agencies draw up plans, policies and programmes for development, and compare the industrial performance with goals set in strategies and plans.
Al Yaqoubi said that the industrial establishments included in the survey for the year 2017 were 371 establishments in Muscat Governorate, 220 in the North Al Batinah Governorate, 50 in South Al Batinah Governorate, 48 in Al Buraimi Governorate, 47 in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, 44 in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate and five in Musandam Governorate.
Al Yaqoubi urged industrial establishments to cooperate with specialists during the survey. Legal action would be taken against the establishments which would not cooperate with the process of the survey for the year attributed to the year 2018 and which would start in March 2019. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is currently improving the process of surveying industrial establishments via an electronic form.
