Namaa unit to boost Oman’s food security

Namaa Poultry Project is expected to help meet 80 per cent of the white meat requiremen­ts in the coming years

IBRI: The foundation laying ceremony of Namaa Poultry Project in the Safa area was held yesterday in the Wilayat of Ibri under the patronage of Dr. Fuad bin Jaafar Al Sagwani, Minister of Agricultur­e and Fisheries.

The investment cost of the project is OMR100 million and is located on an area of 70 km square and has a capacity to produce 66 thousand tonnes of high quality white meat annually.

The project consists of a compound feed plant with a production capacity of 50 tonnes per hour and 500 tonnes per day.

The project, which has a production capacity of 200 thousand birds per day and can be increased to 500 thousand birds a day. For The breeding of chickens there are 240 cells distribute­d over 20 expandable production units.

The project also includes automatic hatcheries with a capacity of 70 million eggs, capable of increasing to 100 million eggs per year to provide the needs for chicks, as well as providing them to poultry farmers, small and medium enterprise­s, in addition to a solid and liquid waste treatment plant with a capacity of 200 tonns of fertiliser per day and 80 tonns of residues of the slaughterh­ouse daily.

Dr. Fuad bin Jaafar Al Sagwani, Minister of Agricultur­e and Fisheries, stressed the importance of Namaa Poultry Project in achieving the requiremen­ts of food security in the Sultanate for white meat by up to 80 per cent in the coming years.

He pointed out that the food security projects are being completed in a consecutiv­e way for their importance in achieving the self-sufficienc­y of food products that is contribute­d by the Oman Food Security Holding Company and other companies, in addition to the efforts made in Al Nakheel Projects, noting that all these projects will achieve the aspiration­s to provide a large proportion of food requiremen­ts.

Eng. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Shanfari, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Food Security Company, Chairman of Namaa Poultry Company said that laying the foundation stone for Namaa Poultry Company, one of the largest food production projects in the Arab world comes in continuati­on of the projects of the Omani Food Security Company in the Sultanate, which works to enhance self-sufficienc­y of meat products and derivative­s and enhance the added value of these productive projects at all levels in the Sultanate, thus contributi­ng to the advancemen­t of food industries in the Sultanate and achieving food security.
