NCSI releases second edition of National Indicators Handbook
MUSCAT: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) recently published the second issue of the National Indicators Handbook, which deals with Tourism Indicators. The manual provides detailed metadata on the most important tourism indicators in Oman.
The National Indicators Handbook has sorted out Tourism Indicators in the Sultanate based on its importance, statistical methodology, periodicity, and other descriptive information, which are used by researchers and those keen on understanding the tourism data structure of the country.
The manual includes a chapter on the general concepts that define each component of the tourism indicators, such as inbound visitors and outbound visitors, the purpose of the visit, domestic tourists, availability of local accommodation and hospitality services, as well as detailed metadata on Salalah tourism season indicators.
Tourism sub-sections
The tourism sub-sections focus on the descriptions of tourism statistical terminology is in its various forms, such as tourist arrivals, domestic tourists, and tourist departures.
The metadata also highlights the relationship between visitor consumption index and the supply of goods and services indexes among the various services provided by the different sectors of the country, as well as the services to meet the demand of visitors.
The sub-sections also provide details on the total economic profile that describes the contribution of tourism to the Gross Domestic Production (GDP) and detailed data on tourists’ consumption indexes too.
The metadata handbook displayed in the different indicators includes: Indicators name, definitions, methodology and measurement, unit of measurement, periodicity, level of detailing, data’s geographical coverage, source of primary data.
