Arab-EU Summit calls for choking terror funding

- SHARM EL-SHEIKH:

The first Arab-European Summit ended yesterday in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, with the participat­ion of the Sultanate.

Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said Deputy Prime Minister for Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n Affairs and Personal Representa­tive of His Majesty the Sultan led the Sultanate’s delegation to the Summit.

The final comunique of the Summit stressed the strengthen­ing of the Arab-European partnershi­p, the support of a real internatio­nal and multilater­al system, the agreement to resolve the Libyan crisis, known as the Skhirat agreement.

It also welcomed the Stockholm ceasefire agreement in Al Hodeidah in Yemen and called for the allowing of humanitari­an aid in Yemen and cooperatio­n in the fight against terrorism.

The Summit called for the two sides to cooperate in stopping illegal immigratio­n, drying up the sources of support for terrorist groups and organisati­ons and preventing incitement to hatred and racism.

It also called for adherence to common stands on the Middle East peace process, the illegality of the settlement­s, the commitment to a two-state solution, the evacuation of the Middle East region from weapons of mass destructio­n and resolving the Syrian crisis.
