MUSCAT: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s National War Memorial in New Delhi.

The memorial is located in Central Delhi next to the India Gate.

As part of the ceremony, the Indian leader lit the ‘eternal flame’ at the heart of the monument and met the families of ‘Param Vir Chakra’ recipients.

The Param Vir Chakra is India’s highest military decoration, awarded for displats displays and acts of valour during wartime.

Modi defended his record with the military and issued a scathing rebuke of Congress during the inauguration.

The Indian leader said, “This is the only government which has bought more than 230,000 bullet proof jackets in the last four and a half years”

“Nearly two and a half decades ago, the file for this memorial was presented,” he said, before adding that while the government of Atal Behari Vajpayee were interested in building it, efforts to construct it stalled after Congress came back to power in 2004.

“Today every citizen of the country, every citizen is asking the question, why the martyrs treated this way? Why was this kind of injustice done to the superheroes who dedicated themselves to the country? The difference between India First and Family First is the answer,” he said in reference to the Gandhi family and Congress.

“From the school to the hospital, from highway to airport, stadium to award - everywhere the name of the same family was connected.

I think it is clear that Modi is not important, but the country’s civilisation, culture and history are at the top.

“Modi may not be remembered, but he must sacrifice the millions of people of this country, penance, dedication, bravery and his courage, Ajar-Amar,” stated the prime minister.
