Milk laced with rat poison

-

“She took a rat poison [a chemical used for killing rodents], which she found and mixed it with the infant’s milk powder, [thus] trying to murder her. At that moment, the mother of the infant reached the scene and saw the milk colour had changed, in addition to the stink that came from the bottle and became suspicious of the milk,” the report said.

“She reacted at the right time and saved her child. The wife then told her husband about this, who in turn reported the matter to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).”

The ROP investigative team arrived at the scene of the crime and gathered samples from the milk and the poison used and sent it to the laboratory for further examination.

Once the ROP presented their evidence and questions to the domestic worker, she first denied the incident, but later admitted to the crime and told the police what had really happened after being faced with solid evidence, the report continued.

After completing the investigation, the Public Prosecution referred her case to the competent court to review it.

The court convicted the accused of a premeditated murder attempt as per article 86 of the Omani Penal Code.

“The accused admitted to the court that she did it, as she wanted to go home and didn’t want to stay there anymore. The court also heard the wife’s testimony and how she found out about the incident.”

“Thank god the mother found out about the matter. Many mothers let their housemaids feed their infants, leaving them at their mercy, without any monitoring despite being present at home. Negligence in raising children can lead to negative incidents. Such incidents can be avoided, as the lives of children are our responsibility. ”
