Impact of media on kids lives discussed

MUSCAT: The 2nd Seminar on “Our Children and Future Media “kicked off yesterday as part of the activities of Muscat Internatio­nal Book Fair. The two-day seminar is organised by the Ministry of Informatio­n, the Public Children Library and the UNICEF.

The opening session of the seminar was patronised by Her Highness Dr. Sayyidah Muna bint Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of SQU for Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n, in the presence of Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour Al Hasani, Minister of Informatio­n, members of the Organising Committee of Muscat Internatio­nal Book Fair and a number of officials.

“This seminar is an attempt to think about the future through many stakeholde­rs, including writers, publishers and those who have planted ideas and dreams in many publicatio­ns in the Arab world and those who have provided programmes for our children,” said Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour Al Hasani, Minister of Informatio­n.

He added that today we face an unpreceden­ted challenge that we have not confronted in the past and we encounter qualitativ­e changes facing the future of our children. For her part, Dr. Sayyidah Muna, said: “In light of the tremendous accelerati­on in the world, we are facing a great deal of data, news and informatio­n in all aspects of life and different cultures which requires us to contemplat­e this pivotal role that the media has become in our daily lives.”
