Oman’s veteran ace Al Asfoor wins Senior Tennis Champions tournament in Baghdad

MUSCAT: Majeed bin Abdullah Al Asfoor, Oman’s veteran tennis ace and Deputy Chairman of the Oman Tennis Associatio­n secured the top spot in the Arab Championsh­ip for Senior Tennis Champions held in Baghdad from February 20 to 23.

The seasoned profession­al claimed the top spot in the doubles category of the tournament with doubles partner Abdul Hakim. 85 players representi­ng 15 countries took part in this major tournament.

Majeed Al Asfoor took part and featured in the inaugural tournament in Cairo, 2017 and in the second edition of the same tournament held in Beirut the following year. Majeed Al Asfoor and doubles partner Abdul Hakim Abdul Ghaffar of Egypt were crowned champions after beating Talal Ibrahim Reda from Bahrain and his Palestinia­n partner Ahmed Jarad in two straight sets. In addition to winning the doubles, Majeed also came in a close second in the singles category against his doubles partner Abdul Hakim.

with the earliest dating all the way back to 1986. He has participat­ed in and won numerous tennis championsh­ips held across the Sultanate, namely at Al Bustan, Interconti­nental, Grand Hyatt, Al Falaj, Sheraton and Crowne Plaza Hotel. The unpreceden­ted achievemen­t of winning the doubles and securing second spot in the singles category for seniors in Baghdad this year makes Majeed Al Asfoor’s feat the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman.

Speaking about his latest triumph in the Arab Championsh­ip

Deputy Chairman of for Senior Tennis Champions, Majeed Al Asfoor said, “I believe in giving my very best in anything I put my hand to and tennis is no different. To achieve good success, hard work and focus are the main ingredient­s. I love this game and I am already looking forward to the next tournament.”

With the dust yet to settle on the medals he has won in Baghdad this year, Oman’s veteran ace is already looking forward to the sixth edition of the Arab Championsh­ip for Senior Tennis Champions which will be held in Amman, Jordan.
