‘Increase in number of Omanis taking Indian scholarship offer’

MUSCAT: About 300 participants attended the ‘Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation’ (ITEC) Day celebrated by the Indian embassy in Muscat at its multi-purpose hall recently.
A large number of ITEC alumni from Oman were among those who attended the event.
Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, who was the Chief Guest on this occasion, in his address, referred to the historically close trade and cultural relations between India and Oman.
Speaking, on the occasion, Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, said that this year, the ITEC Programme had received very good response from the Omani participants and to date out of a total of 125 scholarships offered this year to Oman, 115 had already been utilised, which was more than the combined total of utilisation in last two years.
Ambassador Mahawar thanked Minister of Civil Service and his Ministry as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman for paying special attention to the training aspects of Omanis in various sectors, resulting in this substantial increase.
Stating that the Government of India remained a strong partner in the Sultanate’s journey towards economic diversification and its vision to become a knowledge economy, he informed that special customised courses can be organised dedicated for Omani candidates in their areas of interest.
‘ITEC Day’ celebration is India’s annual endeavour to bring ITEC alumni together so that they can share their experiences and views on India with one another.
