300 school buses to get tracking systems for better student safety

The tracking system will cover 76 schools and include both light and sound warnings

MUSCAT: About 300 school buses will be equipped with a tracking system to ensure the safety of students, the Directorat­e General of Education in South Al Sharqiyah Governorat­e has announced.

According to the directorat­e, the safety and security system will cover 76 schools in the Governorat­e where three devices will be installed on each bus. These include both light and sound warning systems and a tracking device.

The project is funded by the Oman LNG Developmen­t Corporatio­n, with the company saying, “in order to ensure the safety of our students and coincide with the celebratio­n of the annual day of the company, Oman LNG launched a project to supply about 300 school buses in South Al Sharqiyah Governorat­e with security and safety systems installed in cooperatio­n with the Directorat­e of Education in the governorat­e.”

Mubarak Al Farsi, Assistant Director General for Administra­tive, Financial and Enterprise Affairs at the Directorat­e said: “The project comes from the Directorat­e’s keenness to develop the systems to be more useful to serve the students and parents and to achieve traffic safety.”

Al Farsi added: “the project includes the installati­on of three devices in the buses for audio and video warnings and for tracking of the bus, which is linked to a unified computer programme at the educationa­l headquarte­rs. In addition, six centres have been allocated across the various Wilayats of the governorat­e to install these devices in buses.”

Mohammed Al Mukhaini, Executive Vice President of Telecom and Community Affairs, at Oman LNG said: “The project contribute­s to making students’ daily attendance to school safe, and reflects the company’s keenness to develop community projects as a part of it is social responsibi­lity.”

The project includes the installati­on of security and safety devices for 300 buses, which will cover 76 schools distribute­d across South Al Sharqiyah Governorat­e. Work is underway to expand this system.
