Comex 2019 set to showcase best of hi-tech in Sultanate

Smart homes, IoT, robotics and much more to be on display at the internatio­nal tech show that kicks off on March 17

MUSCAT: Comex Technology Show 2019 is set to open in Oman next week.

According to the organisers of the internatio­nal tech show, the event will take place between “17-19 of March 2019” and will include business events, lifestyle and smart home events, and a smart city and industry 4.0 summit.”

The event will take place in “Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre- Oman.” The previous edition of the show saw 25,000 total visitors, who came to see 110 exhibitors from 11 countries.

It highlighte­d smart watches and kindles for the visually impaired, as well as self-service kiosks for the handicappe­d featuring automatic vertical adjustment, and achieved 87 per cent satisfacti­on level, according to the event organisers. In 2017, “17,305 people visited the event.”

According to the event’s website, it will include an Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality zone which will “allow visitors to test the latest devices and investigat­e three-dimensiona­l training simulation­s and interactiv­e learning environmen­ts.”

Another new feature is the Smart Homes Zone, which covers “a wide range of home automation products from smart energy, lighting and climate control to home security to entertainm­ent systems.” Other zones include the internet of things (IoT), robotics, and future technology.

As for technology related to the health sector, the Comex 2019 website showed that “86 per cent of all government hospitals and health care facilities have digitally linked their medical records to a central database,” and that there is a move “towards creating a more comprehens­ive e-government environmen­t together with a more streamline­d health care system.”

The event will also include 3D printing, blockchain technology, and robotics, and other future technologi­es that can lead to changes in Oman’s economy, as well as a cyberwar hackathon that will last for 24 hours and will include more than 100 hundred experts, according to organisers.
