Winners of women’s and junior league honoured

Oman Cricket honoured Women’s League and Junior League toppers in a prize distributi­on ceremony

MUSCAT: Women’s League and Junior League toppers were felicitate­d at a colourful prize distributi­on ceremony attended by Oman Cricket Board members and sponsors at Oman Cricket Academy (OCA) on Sunday.

The prizes were awarded by the guests of honour Syed Anwar Ahsan, Kiran Asher and Chaitanya Gulabsi Khimji. Women’s Cricket Sohar received the winner’s trophy while Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) was awarded the runner-up prize.

Fiza Javed of PSM won the best batswoman award while the best bowler prize went to Shreya Sandesh Dhuri of Indian School Ghubrah (ISG). Jayadhanya Gunasekar of Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) won the consolatio­n batting prize while consolatio­n bowling award went to Sani e Zehra of PSM.

Junior League awards saw a sizeable presence of prominent school players, parents and teachers in charge of respective school teams.

Under-19 champion PSM swept the awards, walking away with all the prizes on offer.

Junior League stalwart Ubaidullah was awarded the best batsman and best all-rounder prizes for his sterling performanc­es with bat and ball (476 runs and 14 wickets) in the competitio­n. Best bowler award went to Muhammed Muzahir Raza while Adeel Abbas claimed the consolatio­n bowling prize.

Under-16 champion ISWK received the winner’s trophy while Sri Lankan School Muscat (SLSM) won the runner-up prize. Gyan Ganesh Banjan of MCCC A claimed the best batsman award for scoring 272 runs while Sanjaya Ravindra of SLSM received the best bowler prize for picking up 14 wickets. ISM A received the winner’s trophy in the Under-13 category while ISWK A was awarded the runner-up prize.

Giriharan Kuttiraja was declared the best batsman for scoring 496 runs at an unbelievab­le average of 165.33. Lakshmi Narayana of ISG claimed the best bowler award for taking 12 wickets while Aaryan Nishit Punja of ISM A bagged the best all-rounder prize for scoring 408 runs and taking 14 wickets.
