Official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in Oman organises blood donation campaign

-

MUSCAT: Oman Reds, the official Liverpool FC Supporters Club in Oman recently organised a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Health’s Department of Blood Services to boost the current rate of blood donation in the Sultanate.

The campaign aimed to help maintain a sufficient supply of blood in the country’s blood banks and bolster the Ministry of Health’s efforts to raise the daily donation rate from 50 units to 100 units all over the Sultanate.

Through the campaign, the Oman Reds also aimed to increase public awareness about the urgent need to donate blood as Omani blood banks constantly face the shortage of blood amid the rising number of road injuries.

The fan group has gone from strength to strength since starting with just 2 friends meeting at a house to watch the games and has now expanded to over 400 members, has English and Arabic sections, and has gatherings in 2 different venues on match days.

The Oman Reds do not only gather to watch games together. In 2013, fans travelled to Liverpool and played on the pitch at Anfield against other international supporters clubs.

Members can also get access to match day tickets. Oman Reds members also get to go to Anfield for a black tie dinner with LFC legends every year, which a group of them will be attending at the end of April this year after the game vs Huddersfield.

The group has also hosted ex LFC players in Muscat such as Alan Kennedy, who scored the winning goals in 2 European cup finals and Gary McAllister who scored an unforgettable goal against Everton in the Merseyside derby vs Everton.

It is free to join the Official Liverpool Supporters Club in Oman and if you would like to join you can message the committee through ‘Oman Reds’ on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat or email them on omanreds@gmail.com.

It is an exciting time to be a Liverpool FC fan with the team currently top of the premier league table with 5 games to go and in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The Oman Reds looks set to grow even more, with 4 factors boosting their popularity; the charismatic Jurgen Klopp, attractive attacking play from the team, reaching the Champions League final last season and of course, the Arabian hero, Mohammad Salah.
