‘Human rights of people are well protected in Oman’

NEW YORK: His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Fatik Al Said said that the human rights in the Sultanate were well protected by the laws and legislatio­ns, which aimed to protect the individual­s and the society.

Delivering the Sultanate’s speech at the UN Social, Humanitari­an and Cultural Committee affiliated to the UN General Assembly, Sayyid Taimur added that the “Sultanate is one of the countries which has entered into agreements for the protection of child and basic freedom”.

He said that the Sultanate has ratified several other agreements concerned with the rights of workers which were issued by the Internatio­nal Labour Orgainsati­on (ILO). He also added that the Sultanate has formed a number of national committee and teams including the National Committee for Eliminatio­n of all Forms of Discrimina­tion Against Women in 2007, Oman Human Rights Commission in 2008 and the National Committee for Combating Human Traffickin­g in 2009 among other committees. (ONA), “The prices of the Yellowfin Tuna (size 40 kilograms) are between OMR20 to OMR24, and OMR27-30 for 50 kilograms. The price for 80 kilograms Yellowfin Tuna is OMR60.”

The Ministry of Agricultur­e and Fisheries has provided 30 licenses for modern fishing boats that can be used for high sea fishing. The boats contain all necessary amenities and all means of fish storage, which could contribute to boosting fish quantities and raising the income of the Omani fisherman.
