STS lift Realex Challenger­s trophy

MUSCAT: In an exciting final, Safety Techincal Services {STS} beat Al Salama polyclinc by one goal to lift the Realex Challenger­s football trophy held at Al Hail grounds recently.

STS scored the goal in the second half and maintained the lead till the final moment of the game much to the delight of their huge supporters.

In the semifinal match the host team Realex lost to Al Salama polyclinic in the penalty shoot out and STS beat Black and White football club by one goal.

Most of the matches lived up to expectatio­n of the huge crowd and all matches were officiated by noted Omani referres Khalid Al Harrasi and Rashid Al Harthy.

The tournament also had live entertainm­ents and live commentary by noted commentato­r Salih Thacher.

However the star of the day was the Chief Guest of the function I.V. Vijayan, the former Indian football team captain. Vijayan also took part in the veterans match and exhibited that his magic on the ground is not yet over and scored a goal for his team. I.M.Vijayan was received by warm welcome by the crowd and he gave away the winners trophy to the players and team.

Al Salama polyclinc was awarded the runners trophy and Realex won the second runner up cup.

After the presentati­on ceremony I.M. Vijayan said “Being in Oman and seeing such a huge crowd shows how much we love the game of football.

“I appreciate the organisers Realex team and all those who are present here for the enthusiasm you are showing.”

Shanawas Majid, the Managing Director of Realex gave the memento to I.M.Vijayan.
