Sohar International to sponsor Gulf Billiards & Snooker Championship 2019

MUSCAT: As part of its ongoing commitment towards encouraging sporting activities within the Sultanate and providing opportunities for the Omani to achieve more ‘WINs’, Sohar International recently sponsored the Gulf Billiards and Snooker Championship 2019 as main sponsors.

The annual competition attracts talents from across the region and was held for the first time in the Sultanate. Organised by the Omani Billiards and Snooker Committee in cooperation with the GCC Organizing Committee, Gulf Arab Billiards and Snooker Championship 2019 was held between 28 November and 8 December at the Levatio Hotel Muscat.

Snooker Championship is a global event with over 80 participants from the GCC region.

Being the host country, Oman had an advantage of yielding 20 players with two participating teams. Speaking about the Bank’s sponsorship of the event, Mr Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, Senior AGM and Head of Marketing and Customer Experience, said, “Billiards and Snooker are few of the most renowned sports played at a global level.

“With our objective to become a world-class Omani services company, our association with such global sporting event made perfect sense and is in line with our company’s strategy and vision”.

Mr Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi added, “This sponsorship also comes as a statement towards the bank’s continued efforts in supporting and empowering Omanis across diverse avenues including sports as they don’t only represent themselves but also represent the

Sultanate.” With full turnout from each of the GCC countries, the event began with the GCC Men’s Snooker Singles which continued till December 1 followed by semifinals with the finals being held on 8 December 2019.

14 games

A total of 14 games were held over 10 days with 14 referees supervising the snooker matches and 12 referees supervising billiards matches from different countries.

By supporting such global level sporting events, Sohar International reinforces its belief in investing in the youth of Oman.

They believe in sponsoring the youth in a number of championships and tournaments who are raising the country’s name at both a local and international level.
