Rains begin in some parts, more expected

The precipitat­ion is expected to gradually extend to more areas of the Sultanate

MUSCAT: Light to moderate rain fell on Sunday in Al Buraimi governorat­e, Mahdah and Al Jezi valley in Sohar, North Al Batinah.

Oman’s Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) said on Sunday, that the latest aerial photos show an average flow of clouds over the governorat­es of Musandam, North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi, with chances of isolated rains and thundersto­rms during the coming hours, in addition to the formation of clouds on parts of the Al Hajar Mountains.

The precipitat­ion is the result of a groove of a depression that will affect Oman from the evening of December 15, 2019 (Sunday) to December 19, 2019 (Thursday).

A statement issued by the PACA said, “Analysis of the National

Centre for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards indicates that the atmosphere of the governorat­es of North of the Sultanate has been affected by a groove of the depression, as of Sunday evening, December 15-19, 2019.”

PACA confirmed that, “The chances of precipitat­ion will gradually extend from Monday morning to include the governorat­es of Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, South Al Batinah, Muscat and Al Dakhiliya.”

The sea will be medium to rough raging on the coasts of Musandam Governorat­e and the Sea of Oman, and its maximum height will range from 1.5 metres to 2.5 metres.

Caution

The General Authority of Civil Aviation called on citizens and residents to be cautious during the rains, check the state of the sea before stepping out, and follow the weather bulletins issued by it.
