Badr Al Samaa organises CME on diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy
MUSCAT: Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Barka in its pursuit of imparting medical education regularly, conducted Continuing Medical Education (CME) on an important topic in gastroenterology, endoscopy in daily practice.
It was an important event for the medical fraternity from in and around Al Batinah region to learn about this critical subject and establish a right approach in diagnosing critical illnesses with the help of gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Barka possesses advanced facilities for endoscopy. The CME which was attended by over 100 doctors was accredited by OMSB.
Dr Raveendran V A, Specialist Internist welcomed the delegates and Dr Binish Sreekumar, Specialist Internist introduced Dr Nikhil Suraj, the main speaker of the event. Dr Nikhil Suraj holds DM degree in Gastroenterology with an outstanding experience of 15 years in gastroenterology practice.
In his presentation on endoscopy, Dr Nikhil Suraj said, “A non-surgical procedure, endoscopy is used to study the issues in the digestive tract. An endoscope is a flexible scope having a light and camera attached to its tip, doctor views the footage from the camera on TV Screens and it helps to diagnose the cause of stomach pain, ulcers, gastritis, or difficulty swallowing, digestive tract bleeding, changes in bowel habits (chronic constipation or diarrhoea) and polyps or growths in the colon. Polyps are also called as the seeds of cancer, hence early detection of polyps and its removal become very important.”
He also said that endoscopy is not just a diagnostic procedure but a therapeutic procedure as well and we can perform some important procedures like ballondilatation and polypectomy. He said Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Barka has the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic facilities and a well-established gastroenterology department. The CME presentation was followed by a lively interactive question and answer session.
