Zubair SEC hosts Oman Logistics Centre, holds Tajribati session

MUSCAT: Zubair Small Enterprise­s Centre (Zubair SEC) organised ‘Tajribati’ session for December to focus on ‘opportunit­ies for small and medium enterprise­s (SMEs) in the logistics sector’. Hosted speakers were representa­tives from Oman Logistics Centre.

The session, which was organised at Bait Al Zubair recently to expand the participat­ion of prospectiv­e SMEs in the economic growth of the country, extended participan­ts an outline of the extensive choice of logistics opportunit­ies available for start-ups to establish a business in the sector.

Zubair SEC hosted for this session a team from Oman Logistics Centre who provided inside view of how SMEs can impact and help logistics industry to grow and how they can capitalise on the available opportunit­ies in this vital sector. Khalfan Al Khusaibi – Omanisatio­n and In-Country Value Lead, Ghadeer Al Alawi, Human Capital Analyst, and Ali Al Makhmari, Manpower Data and Planning Specialist participat­ed as speakers at the session.

An introducti­on to Oman Logistics Centre, Oman’s most comprehens­ive end-to-end logistics provider in the Middle East, covering ports, free zones and multimodal transporta­tion was delivered at the session along with informatio­n about the support the organisati­on provides to aspiring entreprene­urs. The session tendered an update on ‘Ibhar’, Oman Logistics Centre’s incubation programme which helps aspiring entreprene­urs to explore business prospects in the logistics sector. Topics such as Omanisatio­n in the sector; In-Country Value; competitio­n mechanisms; and recommende­d competitiv­e practices for entreprene­urs were discussed.

Ali Shaker, Adviser, Business Developmen­t and Strategic Partnershi­ps, Zubair SEC said, “Zubair SEC is already co-operating with Oman Logistics Centre to enhance cooperatio­n in supporting SMEs in the logistics sector. Therefore, this was a very pertinent topic to hold a Tajribati session on. The key to success for SMEs in the logistics sector will depend on maintainin­g a firm understand­ing of the inherent challenges and finding the most effective ways to provide solutions. The session emphasised that SMEs have a unique advantage in the logistics industry and can create niches in the logistics sector. Speakers from Oman Logistics Centre encouraged the participat­ion of SMEs in the logistics sector. They urged the SME logistics players to work hard and move up the value chain by placing a greater emphasis on a planned approach. Zubair SEC would like to thank the representa­tives from Oman Logistics Centre for an enlighteni­ng session.”

Ghadeer Al Alawi, Human Capital Analyst, Oman Logistics Centre said, “We thank Zubair SEC for extending us an opportunit­y to interact with bright minds from the centre. Tajribati is a great platform and SMEs can truly gain knowledge, obtain informatio­n, debate common challenges and get an understand­ing of happenings in various sectors. Oman and supported young Omanis to achieve business success.”

She added, “Logistics industry is a vibrant sector where SMEs can play a crucial role. There are myriad business opportunit­ies that one can look out for in this sector and raise the value of the contributi­on of SMEs to the GDP. We encouraged to tap the opportunit­ies in the sector as the country’s logistics strategy has set a very challengin­g plan to drive Oman to the forefront of the global logistics industry by creating employment opportunit­ies and adopting new technologi­es and processes.

“We also provided them informatio­n on Oman Logistics Centre’s Ibhar incubator which offers incubation space, business support services and clustering and networking opportunit­ies for aspiring entreprene­urs.”

Attendees of the session said, “The session on the outlooks in the logistics industry for an SME like me proved to be of enormous advantage. Such programmes will create a vibrant entreprene­urial scene across Oman and will encourage more local SMEs and startups to explore opportunit­ies.”

The ‘Tajribati’ series serves as a unique platform to connect industry experts with start-up owners and entreprene­urs to exchange views, discuss common challenges and share best practices.

The ‘ Tajribati’ discussion sessions organised by Zubair SEC, a social responsibi­lity initiative of The Zubair Corporatio­n, are aimed at supporting young entreprene­urs and owners of small and medium enterprise­s.
