OMR150,000 donated to Dar Al Atta’a at charity dinner
The event was organised to collect funds for Dar Al Atta’a empowerment programmes, which was set up by the charitable body to help people and families in need
MUSCAT: Companies and individuals donated a total of OMR150,000 to Dar Al Atta’a’s charitable causes at a gala dinner organised by them on Sunday, December 15.
Held in the presence of Saud bin Harib Al Zadjali, the chairman of Muscat Municipality, the event was organised to collect funds for Dar Al Atta’a empowerment programmes, which was set up by the charitable body to help people and families in need, by providing them professional training as well as rehabilitation where required, so that they have the skills to help both individuals and society in the long-term.
“One of the most significant empowerment programmes set up by Dar Al Atta’a is ‘Min Baity’ (Arabic for ‘from home’), a programme that helps Omani women set up home businesses with efficiency, ensures they sell good quality products, and provide a source of income to their families,” said a statement from the charitable body.
“Another key project for the organisation is their Green Home initiative, which looks to provide employment in the field of agriculture, to people with special needs at the Wafa Social Centre,” added the statement. “This helps provide an appropriate work environment for them, while keeping in mind their capabilities and health. As part of this project, organic agricultural crops are grown in the area and then sold in the region.”
Another project underway is the beekeeping and honey production plan, which aims to empower women in the family, and establish a beekeeping and honey extraction centre, as well as its sale to various industries that need it.
This project also imparts to women the skills required to work as beekeepers.
At the event, awareness of Dar Al Atta’a’s various initiatives, including the care, setting up and maintenance of housing facilities, the Ramadan breakfast project and food supply initiative, provision of sacrificial animals to families around Eid, family sponsorship programmes, as well as other events that were used to improve the quality of life for needy people in the country, in the form of the construction of schools, in addition to scholarships provided to more than 170,000 beneficiaries.
A presentation was shown on the various activities organised by Dar Al Atta’a, as well as a film on the various empowerment programmes run by the organisation.
This was done “with the aim of empowering Omani women to make their own businesses and empowering society groups to manage their lives in a beneficial way, placing them on the first level of the ladder of self-reliance and teaching them a number of life skills and businesses that enabled them to reach the economic stability of the family.”
The ceremony also honoured a number of firms and supporters who sponsored activities of the association during 2019.
