Frost and snow formation witnessed at Jabal Shams

A1A statement issued by the CDAA , said: “The authority stresses the need to follow safety instructio­ns during rains and not to venture into flooded wadis to preserve the safety of everyone.”

Jabal Shams recorded temperatur­es ranging from -1 to -5 degrees Celsius in the morning and between 5 to 1 degrees Celsius during the day, which led to the formation of frost and snow. Citizens and residents rushed during the weekend to watch the snow and enjoyed the cold weather on top of the mountain.

Cautioning visitors on the Jabal Shams road, the Royal Oman

Police (ROP) said: “For users of the Jabal Shams Road in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, it is dangerous to go up and down due to rain. Muddy soil leads to slipping of vehicles, so please do not take the risk and leave safe distance between vehicles.”

Take caution

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism also said: “Given the danger of the road leading to Jebel Shams in the Wilayat of Al-Hamra due to rains, road users are requested not to take risks and take caution.”

The Ministry of Agricultur­e, Fisheries and Water Resources published the amount of rainfall over a number of wilayats between 24 to 28 January 2023 until 11 am. The state of Mhada in Al Buraimi Governorat­e received the highest amount of 124 mm rain, followed by the state of Shinas with 105 mm, then Liwa with 103 mm, followed by Dibba, Madha, Ibri and Khasab 90, 75, 61 and 37mm respective­ly.

On the other hand, the states of Mirbat, Rusatq and Maqshan recorded the least amount of rain in the Sultanate, amounting to 2 mm each, while the state of Al Suwaiq in the Governorat­e of North Al Batinah recorded the least amount of rain with 1 mm.
