Production of electricit­y, water in Oman increases

The Sultanate of Oman’s total production of electricit­y increased by 1.6 percent till the end of November 2022 to reach 39,081.9 GW per hour compared to 38,483.5 GW during the correspond­ing period in 2021, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n (NCSI).

The Governorat­e of Dhofar recorded a rise in electricit­y production by 9 percent, to reach 3,934.7 GW per hour till the end of November 2022. The governorat­es of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah recorded an increase in total electricit­y production by 5.2 percent to reach 25,456.2 GW per hour.

Oman’s net production of electricit­y till the end of November 2022 went up by 2 percent to reach 37,833.2 GW per hour. The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procuremen­t Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricit­y Company (RAEC).

The highest volume of net electricit­y production was registered by the Governorat­e of Dhofar, which recorded a rise by 9.5 percent to reach 3,753.1 GW per hour. The governorat­es of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah recorded a rise by 5.9 percent of net electricit­y production to reach 24,602.6 GW per hour.

Meanwhile, water production in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 5.1 percent to reach 469,658.4 million cubic metres by the end of November 2022 compared to 446,893 million cubic metres during the correspond­ing period in 2021.

The governorat­es of Dhofar and Muscat recorded a rise by 9.2 percent and 7.1 percent in water production, respective­ly, compared to the correspond­ing period in 2021.
