OOC committed to enhancing sports in Oman, says Al Zubair

Oman Olympic Committee Chairman hailed the ongoing studies commission­ed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth to assess the state of sports in Oman and governance structures

Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) Chairman Khalid Al Zubair has reaffirmed OOC’s commitment to enhancing the sports sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

He hailed the ongoing studies commission­ed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth to assess the state of sports in Oman and governance structures.

“The efforts by the sports ministry aim to streamline roles and responsibi­lities across stakeholde­rs and pave the way for comprehens­ive planning geared towards achieving optimal sporting outcomes in the years to come,” said Al Zubair.

Addressing the members of the board at the OOC General Assembly held on Tuesday, Al Zubair commended the active participat­ion and insightful contributi­ons of committee members. He emphasised the importance of trust, constructi­ve dialogue, collaborat­ion, and partnershi­p within the Omani sports community.

Highlighti­ng OOC’s commitment to fostering regional cooperatio­n, Al Zubair stressed the significan­ce of collaborat­ion within the GCC framework.

“Such collaborat­ions serve as a conduit for sharing experience­s, fostering cooperatio­n, and aligning visions among GCC nations towards common sports and youth objectives,” he added.

Al Zubair also praised Oman’s successful hosting of the 35th meeting of GCC NOCs Presidents in Muscat and expressed satisfacti­on with the subsequent strides taken to implement the outcomes of these meetings, including the hosting of the inaugural GCC Youth and Junior Games in the United Arab Emirates in April.

Regarding ongoing initiative­s related to the governance of OOC and sports federation­s, Al Zubair outlined the committee’s proactive approach towards future projects and programmes. He highlighte­d the implementa­tion of governance frameworks and the adoption of pertinent regulation­s, including financial guidelines and athlete-related protocols aligned with internatio­nal standards.

Al Zubair congratula­ted Omani athletes for their recent achievemen­ts across sailing, athletics, and para-sports at the Asian Games.

He reiterated OOC’s drive to nurture Omani youth as catalysts for comprehens­ive developmen­t and thanked the pivotal role played by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, in bolstering the sports sector towards multifacet­ed and sustainabl­e growth, echoing His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said’s vision for a robust and resilient nation.
