AITZAZ BELIEVES MQM STILL BELONGS TO ALTAF HUSSIAN

PPP STALWART SAYS RANGERS SHOULD NOT BE INVOLVED IN CHANGING POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS

- STAFF REPORT

Opposition Leader in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday criticised the Rangers-led operation in Karachi, saying it will only benefit the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and its London-based founder Altaf Hussain.

Interacting with a group of reporters here, Ahsan said that there was a strong impression that the paramilitary force had been running a dry-cleaning machine and everyone who was set free by them came out as a clean man.

He was of the view that the Rangers should dispel the impression of operating a drycleaning machine and not be involved in changing political affiliations, adding that the Rangers were exceeding their legal powers and it would create further space for the militant wing of MQM.

About MQM leader Asif Husnain’s disassociation from Altaf Hussain and his subsequent defection to the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), the PPP stalwart said that both Farooq Sattar and Asif Husnain had announced their disassociation from the MQM supremo after being released by the Rangers. He said he felt that they should have announced their disassociation from Hussain before their arrest by the Rangers.

The PPP stalwart said he believed the MQM still belonged to Altaf Hussian.

Referring to Altaf Hussain, Ahsan said, “I don’t think that British government will proceed against Altaf Hussain on its own.” He asked the government to approach the British government for action to be taken against the MQM chief.

Altaf Hussain’s diatribe last week took many by surprise who were convinced that state institutions will use the speech as a justification for a strong action against MQM activists.
