Annual day at Sayeed Alfalah Literacy Centre

- PRESS RELEASE

KARACHI: The Sayeed-Alfalh Literacy Centre held its annual day on Saturday 27th August at Rangoonwala Hall Karachi. Mrs Shamim Sayeed is the chairperson of The Sayeed Al FALAH Literacy Centre and her mission statement is: “The truly lasting gift we can bestow on our children is education" Empower them with education, cultivate their minds and rich results are guaranteed. This was the ethos that prompted the establishment of The Sayeed Alfalah Trust. MrsShamim-Sayeed has been in education since the 1960's. Herself a Fulbright Scholar at North Western University in Chicago USA, she became principal of The Model School in PECHS on her return. MrsSayeed has always been an Educationist and Education is her passion. It is with this passion that she started The Sayeed-Alfalh Trust - to impart education to the very poor. Teaching these children is an uphill task. Language is a barrier as the children come from various backgrounds. Their parent's attitude to educating girls is a huge hurdle and on top of that the children come from a mobile working class society which can result in considerable student turnover. The literacy Centre currently has a paid staff of eight teachers and a Headmistress with Mrs Shamim Sayeed as the Honorary Chairperson. The Literacy Centre is totally funded by Mrs Shamim Sayeed and her family, with nominal donations from friends who now and again help with books and stationary material. The annual day event this year was to encourage the girls and to show the parents and friends attending what going to school and learning can achieve, regardless of what background you come from. All the girls gave confident performances and entertained the audience with their delightful acts.
