England thrash Pakistan all the way to ODI record
THE England batting lineup pulverised the Pakistani bowlers to record the highest total ever in the history of One Day International Cricket. Opener Alex Hales led the assault at Trent Bridge and struck a fierce 122-ball 171 runs to take England to 444, beating the previous highest score of 443 by Sri Lanka against Netherlands in 2006.
Hales was helped by Joe Root, who added 85 runs in a 248-run second wicket partnership, the highest partnership by any team against Pakistan.
Earlier, England captain Eoin Morgan had won the toss and elected to bat in the third one-day international at Trent Bridge.
Jos Butler scored 90 runs not out, while Captain Morgan added an unbeaten 57.
Wahab Riaz was the most costly bowler, giving away 110 in his 10 overs without taking any wickets the second-worst bowling figures in ODI history.
Mohammad Amir gave away 72 runs, while Hasan Ali picked up two wickets for an expensive 74 runs.
England were unchanged from the side that won the second ODI at Lord’s by four wickets as they sought a win in this day/night fixture that would put them an unbeatable 3-0 up in the five-match series.
Pakistan made one change, with Mohammad Nawaz replacing fellow left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Imad Wasim, who suffered a knee injury while making an unbeaten 63 at Lord’s.
