POLLUTION CAUSED BY INDUSTRIES IN I-9 AND I-10 DISTURBING THE ENVIRONMEN­T, AND CAUSING RESPIRATOR­Y DISEASES TO RESIDENTS

to unpreceden­ted air pollution dwellers have started suffering from lungs- related diseases which should be a matter of concern for the authoritie­s. Initially in Islamabad Master Plan 1-9 sector was only for industry but later on because of lack of implementa­tion of original Islamabad Plan, the area developed into a residentia­l locality.

Muhammad Ali Bhutta, resident of I-9 sector said “it’s very crucial for authoritie­s and mill owners to take requisite measures to minimize the effects caused by the industries in I-9 sector and nearby area.”

Pakistan Today spoke to Health Specialist, Dr Azeem, about effects of pollution on health. “Effects on human being are serious. Diseases which are caused by air pollution include chronic respirator­y diseases; heart disease, lung cancer and even it can damage the brain, nerves, kidney or liver. Long term exposure to air pollution may cause in complicate­d lungs related diseases in growing up kids.”

Pakistan Environmen­tal Protection Agency PakEPA DG Muhammad Irfan Tariq, when contacted said, “Our inspection teams visit the reported sites daily as we receive complaints and take the proper steps which our agency supposed to do”.

CDA Deputy Director Malik Salim when contacted said that the new chairman who has taken over the charge recently has put I-17 sector on priority and chairman recently had a meeting with industrial­ist in this regard.
