KP’s ‘police ordinance’ a step towards rule of law: UNODC
United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Pakistan has congratulated the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for the enactment of KP Police Ordinance 2016, and termed it as a step towards good governance and rule of law. In a letter to chief minister, the UNODC’s representative Cesar Guedes, appreciated government’s efforts for making provincial police law in ordinance with expectations of public, through useful amendments. Cesar wrote, “I would like to congratulate you for the enactment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Ordinance (KPPO) 2016. KP government has been proactive towards improvement of governance and rule of law. UNODC appreciates this as one of the most meaningful changes made, that underlines the government’s commitment to police reforms. KPPO is an effort that must be commended as it makes police law in conformity with the ideals of the Constitution of Pakistan as well as pubic aspiration and protection of human rights.” He added, “please let me assure you of continued support by UNODC to the government in this important initiative and we look forward to strengthening our partnership in the future.”
