Seminar on breast cancer awareness at INMOL

LAHORE: October is designated as month of breast cancer awareness worldwide. In this context, A breast Cancer Seminar was arranged at Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL) Lahore to spread awareness in women. Director INMOL Dr. Abu Baker Shahid, Head Oncology Dr. Misbah Masood, Consultant Oncologist­s Dr. Amira Shami, Dr. Farrukh Rashid, Dr. Ayesha Manan, Dr Sadia Sadiq, Dr. Rafia, Dr Nida Fatima, Dr Asima, Female Para medical Staff, Nurses from different hospitals also participat­ed in this informativ­e Seminar. Director INMOL Dr, Abu Baker Shahid told Pakistan Atomic Energy has 18 cancer centers in all provinces of Pakistan and is providing state of art facilities. Dr. Misbah Masood, Head of Oncology INMOL emphasized that early Detection is the key to treat breast cancer. It is estimated that every year nearly 90 thousand women with breast cancer are diagnosed out of which 40 thousand die. The figure can get improved if women under go screening. Women of age 40 and above must have mammograms on annual basis. Dr. Sadia Sadiq, Consultant Oncologist INMOL told that healthy life style is very important in patients of breast cancer. Early detection can help in decreasing cancer related mortality. Consultant Oncologist Dr. Ayesha Manan explained the possible ways to deal with Breast Cancer including chemothera­py, Radiation Therapy, Hormone Therapy, Targeted therapy. These treatments help increase the survival of these patients. Dr. Nida Fatima told that it is an alarming situation that the incidence of breast cancer is highest in Pakistan among south Asian countries and this figure is continuous­ly increasing. Early detection can lead to 90 percent decrease in cancer related mortality. So females should immediatel­y consult health care provider In the end a fruitful question answers session was organized.
