SP among five killed, 40 injured in suicide blast

A suicide bomber here Wednesday attacked the vehicle of SP Investigat­ion, Hilal Haider Khan in congested Qissakhwan­i bazaar in City, killing him along with four other persons and wounding 40 others.

SP City, Asif Iqbal told journalist­s that it was a suicide attack in which the bomber came on foot in a flash and blew himself up close to the vehicle of SP Investigat­ion, Hilal Haider when reached at Khan Raziq Shaheed police station. As result SP Investigat­ion, Hilal Haider, his driver Ilyas, gunman Murad Khan and two passersby whose identity could not be ascertaine­d were killed on-the-spot.

As many as 40 people were wounded in the attack. The vehicle of slain police officer was totally destroyed in the blast. The funeral prayer of the slain SP would be offered at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines at 2:00 p.m.

DIG Bomb Disposal Sqaud, Shafqat Malik while talking to reporters confirmed the blast as suicide attack and said that 6 to 7 kilograms explosives were used in the attack.

The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital where condition of some was stated to be critical. Many of the shops, buildings and vehicles were badly damaged. The bang of the blast was heard far and wide. The law enforcers cordoned off the area and started investigat­ions to find out the involved perpetrato­rs.
