Banking Court summons 6 consumer banking heads

UBL, NIB, Faysal banks are barred from grabbing and auctioning consumers’ cars

LAHORE

Banking Court No-4 Thursday barred six banks from snatching and auctioning leased cars of their clients who moved the court against the lenders. The banks which were stopped from snatching and auctioning cars included United Bank Limited (UBL) Aftab Centre Davis Road branch, NIB Bank Squire branch.

The consumers in their plea complained that the banks with the help of ‘Ghoonda elements’ had either illegally snatched their leased cars or refused them NOCs, original registrati­ons and other clearances despite complete payments of their installmen­ts. Ahmad Awan of Sabzazar Scheme told the court that he availed auto loan from the UBL branch and cleared all the installmen­ts but the bank refused him the original registrati­on, excise file illegally.

Nosheen Ilyas said that she got loan for Suzuki Alto from UBL and had paid all the dues but the lender had snatched her car forcibly. Shoaib Mansoor, a consumer of NIB Bank complained against the bank that he attained car loan facility from the bank for purchasing Toyota Corolla. He said that he had paid all the installmen­ts but the bank had illegally snatched his Toyota Corolla.

Anwar moved the court against UBL for not handing over NOC of Suzuki Bolan 2008. Another complainan­t Wasim Aslam said NIB consumer banking division snatched his Suzuki Alto despite payment of all installmen­ts.

Likewise, Imran Khan of Multan Road complained that NIB Bank, Bank Squire branch’s privately hired mafia snatched from him Hyndai/ Santro Club regardless of the fact that he had completed all payments.

The banking court summoned the concerned officials from the banks with statement of accounts on November 28 and 29 besides barring the banks from auctioning disputed autos and illegally snatching cars from the consumers. Earlier on November 21, the banking court summoned seven officials of consumer banking divisions of UBL DHA, Davis Road, NIB Nila Gumbad, Bank Alfalah Township and Faysal Bank Walton Road for snatching leased autos from their clients. The Banking Court-4 judge Amjad pervaiz summoned the officials on December 6 with statement of accounts.
