Dhoni becomes India's most successful Test skipper

-

With the win in Hyderabad, MS Dhoni has become the most successful Indian captain in Tests. This was his 22nd win as captain in 45 Tests, going past Sourav Ganguly's 21 in 49. Dhoni said the credit belonged to every one who has ever played a part during matches he has been captain. "I have got a very good side," Dhoni said after India went 2-0 up with an innings win over Australia. "I have always said that. Yes, we have gone through a period where we haven't won many games, but at the end of the day it is the whole team that wins or loses. "The credit goes to each and everyone along with the support staff. Gary [Kirsten] was brilliant [ as coach], now Duncan [Fletcher] is there. I think it's a collective effort and credit goes to each and every individual who has been part of the side." Dhoni credited Bhuvneshwar Kumar for three crucial wickets on the first morning, more than any other seamer took in the match. " It was important to get off to a good start," Dhoni said. "Bhuvnesh provid- ed us the start we really needed. On wickets like these, you don't expect fast bowlers to take a lot of wickets. He bowled in very good areas, which was crucial." Dhoni also praised how Cheteshwar Pujara and M Vijay planned their 370-run partnership, a record for the second wicket for India. "We often talk about long partnerships," Dhoni said. "It was crucial, once you are settled on these pitches, once you cross 40-50 runs, you should look to make it a big innings. That's what they did. "There was a period when they didn't score that many runs, but at the same time if you tire the bowlers in these conditions, you can score freely off them. It resulted in a massive partnership. You have to see their attack also. They had three seamers and two spinners. It was important to not give the seamers wickets, because that is what their strength is. They saw that period through really well. After that they were in a position where they could dictate. They didn't play many big shots, but they put away the loose deliveries." The bowlers came in for praise too. "It was a very good bowling performance," Dhoni said. "Ishant [Sharma] gave us that very important breakthrough of [Shane] Watson. He can play big shots. After that the spinners came to party. [R] Ashwin bowled well, [Ravindra] Jadeja bowled well, Bhajji [Harbhajan Singh] didn't get a chance to bowl, which means the bowlers who were bowling bowled in the right

areas."
