Transport fares reduced in Punjab, Sindh and KP

LAHORE: The transport fares on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a (KP), Sindh and Punjab have been reduced following the reduction in petroleum products' prices. According to the details, the public transport fares have been reduced by at least six percent in Punjab and Sindh whereas in KP by at least eight percent. Moreover, the price of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been reduced by at least Rs 15 per kilogram (Kg). The Sindh government has issued an official notificati­on of the reduction in public transport fares whereas the transport mafia has refused to lower the fares. However, according to the notificati­on the fares of the school vans for children have also been reduced by at least 15 to 20 percent. While in Punjab also the notificati­on has been issued. The KP government announced a reduction of at least eight percent in the public transport fares while the Regional Transport Authority issued revised fare scheme. On the other hand, the railway authoritie­s have reduced the fares of goods transporti­ng trains by at least five percent whereas the matter of reduction of fares in passenger trains is under discussion. The new LPG price is Rs 130/Kg in Lahore and surroundin­g areas.
