Transport fares reduced in Punjab, Sindh and KP
LAHORE: The transport fares on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh and Punjab have been reduced following the reduction in petroleum products' prices. According to the details, the public transport fares have been reduced by at least six percent in Punjab and Sindh whereas in KP by at least eight percent. Moreover, the price of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been reduced by at least Rs 15 per kilogram (Kg). The Sindh government has issued an official notification of the reduction in public transport fares whereas the transport mafia has refused to lower the fares. However, according to the notification the fares of the school vans for children have also been reduced by at least 15 to 20 percent. While in Punjab also the notification has been issued. The KP government announced a reduction of at least eight percent in the public transport fares while the Regional Transport Authority issued revised fare scheme. On the other hand, the railway authorities have reduced the fares of goods transporting trains by at least five percent whereas the matter of reduction of fares in passenger trains is under discussion. The new LPG price is Rs 130/Kg in Lahore and surrounding areas.
