Transport fares in Punjab, Sindh, KP reduced

ISLAMABAD: The inter-city and local transport fares have been reduced following cut in petroleum prices. The Punjab Transport Department has announced to reduce fares of public transport by eight percent all over the province, following a cut in prices of petroleum products. In this regard, a notificati­on has been issued for fixation of new fares. Seven percent reduction has been approved for the petrol transport while eight percent has been announced for the diesel transport vehicles. According to the notificati­on the new fare of intra-city transport will be seven paisa per kilometer. The price-cut in fares will significan­tly facilitate the commuters and provide a relief to the public, besides lessening the prices of the essential items. The Government of Sindh has also re-fixed the fares of Public Transport of Inter City Routes of all distance with immediate effect.

According to a notificati­on, the existing fare of AirConditi­oned Coach and Hiace Vans which is 1.40 rupees per kilometer has been revised to 1.28 rupees per kilometer; while the fare of Non-Air-conditione­d Coaches/Buses/Hiace Vans has been revised to 75 paisas per kilometer. Meanwhile, fare of local transport has also been reduced by 8 percent for various destinatio­ns on "weight- distance, measuremen­t- distance bases on all items of goods with immediate effect. The Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a government has also reduced fares of public transport by eight percent. This decision was taken following decrease in petroleum prices by the federal government.
