CPPA suggests Rs 3.38/unit cut in electricit­y prices

Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) on Wednesday has suggested to cut Rs3.38/unit in electricit­y prices in March.

A summery has also been dispatched to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), recommendi­ng Rs3.38/unit decrease in power prices. The agency stated that the reduction has been made under monthly fuel adjustment of January month.

It said the cost of electricit­y production through high speed diesel was Rs 12.20/unit, Rs 6.28/unit for furnace oil and Rs 6.01/unit was learnt for gas during January.

The request further stated that the cost of nuclear electricit­y production was Rs 1.12/unit and power imported from Iran was Rs 10.60/unit while the reference price decided for January was Rs 9.86/unit but the average power production was recorded as Rs 6.48/unit, therefore, the authoritie­s should permit to relief the nation by slashing the prices for March. Moreover, Nepra will hold the hearing on March 1 into the matter.
