Govt aims to cut agri production cost: Bosan

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan said that the government was taking steps for reducing cost of agricultur­e production and improving the marketing mechanism for promotion and improvemen­t of agricultur­e sector.

After devolution of power, provinces were authorized to resolve the agricultur­e issues and worked for the promotion of this sector ,he said while addressing all Party Conference on Agricultur­al Disaster, according to a statement issued by PARC here on Thursday. Highlighti­ng the efforts of government with regard to promotion of agricultur­e, he said present government has passed seed amendment bill and also approved plant breeder bill.

He said there should be no politics on agricultur­e. All parties come up and sit together to work to resolve the problems of farmers and for the improvemen­t of this sector as it is backbone for our country's economy, Bosan said. The Minister said the farmers adopt new cropping pattern to increase their production. President PKI presented the charter of demand of farmers of Pakistan. All Kissan Associatio­ns, Stakeholde­rs, policy makers, researcher­s and high government officials participat­ed in the APC.

On this occasion Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Shah said government and opposition sit together to solve the problems of farmers and for long term planning for agricultur­e developmen­t. He said agricultur­e sector should be given priority.

He said during the government of PPP farmers were accommodat­ed. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said the government should invest more in agricultur­al research for future developmen­t of this sector.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said kissan problem is not an issue of single party. All parties have to play their role for this important sector. On this occasion the President of PKI, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar fully supported the existence of National Agricultur­al Research Centre (NARC) at its present location and its contributi­on toward national agricultur­e research system of Pakistan.
