FCCI de­mands re­lief for farm­ing com­mu­nity

FAISAL­ABAD: Pres­i­dent Faisal­abad Cham­ber of Com­merce and In­dus­try (FCCI) Muham­mad Nawaz has called for rea­son­able re­lief to the farm­ing com­mu­nity as they are con­tribut­ing much to cater food re­quire­ments be­sides strength­en­ing na­tional econ­omy. Talk­ing to a del­e­ga­tion from the Univer­sity of Cal­i­for­nia USA here on Mon­day, he said Pak­istan is an agrar­ian coun­try but due to en­vi­ron­men­tal changes, the sit­u­a­tion has con­tin­u­ously been re­duc­ing cul­tivable land in ad­di­tion to af­fect­ing our over­all agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tion.

Pro­fes­sor Dr. Pa­trick J. Allen Col­lege of Agri­cul­tural and En­vi­ron­men­tal Sci­ences Univer­sity of Cal­i­for­nia said that green­house ef­fect was ma­jor cause of re­duc­tion in farm yield in Pak­istan. Hence, Pak­istani sci­en­tists should de­velop new va­ri­eties of cash crops which should be heat tol­er­ant and can give proper yield with min­i­mum in­take of wa­ter. Syed Zia Alam­dar Hus­sain Se­nior Vice Pres­i­dent FCCI, Pro­fes­sor Dr. Nancy, Dr. Ash­faq Ahmed of the Univer­sity of Agri­cul­ture Faisal­abad, Chaud­hary Talat Mehmood, Dr. Qa­mar Sha­keel and Faisal Hasan were also present.
