FCCI demands relief for farming community

FAISALABAD: President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Muhammad Nawaz has called for reasonable relief to the farming community as they are contributi­ng much to cater food requiremen­ts besides strengthen­ing national economy. Talking to a delegation from the University of California USA here on Monday, he said Pakistan is an agrarian country but due to environmen­tal changes, the situation has continuous­ly been reducing cultivable land in addition to affecting our overall agricultur­al production.

Professor Dr. Patrick J. Allen College of Agricultur­al and Environmen­tal Sciences University of California said that greenhouse effect was major cause of reduction in farm yield in Pakistan. Hence, Pakistani scientists should develop new varieties of cash crops which should be heat tolerant and can give proper yield with minimum intake of water. Syed Zia Alamdar Hussain Senior Vice President FCCI, Professor Dr. Nancy, Dr. Ashfaq Ahmed of the University of Agricultur­e Faisalabad, Chaudhary Talat Mehmood, Dr. Qamar Shakeel and Faisal Hasan were also present.
