Dubai to charge waste disposal fee from May
DUBAI: Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has issued a decree on the waste disposal fees and fines in Dubai effective as of May 16, 2018.
The Waste Management Department of Dubai Municipality shall undertake all necessary measures to ensure the continuity of services and related activities in the organisational units of the municipality.
All procedures will be applied such as not allowing anybody to enter the waste dumps, except the companies licensed to practice the transporting of waste in the emirate of Dubai and the need for the waste transport vehicles to have a permit from the Waste Management Department and should be equipped with vehicle tracking system, "Rasid" which is subject to the "Navafidh" system of smart gates in the waste dumps as the charges for the disposal of waste will be deducted electronically through the system according to the weight of the waste transferred through the vehicle.
The decree provides for the approval of permit fees and services provided by the municipality in the field of disposal of waste such as determining the disposal fees of general waste, unwanted materials such as papers, tapes, CD-ROMs, fee for hazardous and medical waste treatment, licence fee for activities related to waste, electronic stickers and slides and also determining the violations and fines.
Any person who commits any of the offences shall be liable to a fine according to the type of violation. Violations will vary according to the work instructions approved by the municipality at the disposal site, violation of health, safety, and the environment, HSE, procedures, tampering or damage to equipment, tools or property inside the disposal site, entry to public or hazardous waste disposal sites without authorisation, bringing general waste from outside the emirate for the purpose of dumping in the landfill in the emirate and other types of violations.
