PM, Kazakh president affirm cooperatio­n in trade, transporta­tion

Prime Minister Imran Khan and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met here in the capital of Tajikistan and affirmed the commitment to enhance bilateral relations in diverse fields particular­ly trade, investment and transporta­tion links.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of 20th Shanghai Cooperatio­n Organizati­on Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) Summit, focused on closed collaborat­ion for the mutual benefit of two countries. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and discussed key regional and internatio­nal issues.

The prime minister underlined that Pakistan was resolved to comprehens­ively upgrade engagement with Central Asian countries through its "Vision Central Asia" policy. He particular­ly emphasized the importance of connectivi­ty and Pakistan's pivotal position in providing the shortest access route to the sea.

The prime minister also highlighte­d the significan­ce of TransAfgha­n railway project connecting Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-KabulJalal­abad-Peshawar. He also elaborated his vision of socio-economic developmen­t and shifting country's priority from geo-politics to geo-economics.

To promote regional integratio­n, the two sides also decided to enhance connectivi­ty through land and air routes. The prime minister also underscore­d the importance of peace and stability in Afghanista­n for Pakistan and the region.

He stressed that the internatio­nal community had to remain engaged to support the Afghan people, to address urgent humanitari­an needs, and take steps to stabilize the economy. The prime minister stressed that sustainabl­e peace and security in Afghanista­n would contribute to regional peace, connectivi­ty and progress.

The two leaders agreed to increase the frequency of high-level political exchanges. The Prime

Minister renewed the invitation to President Tokayev to visit Pakistan. President Tokayev extended invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Kazakhstan. Pakistan and Kazakhstan enjoy cordial relations based on a common approach towards the world issues as well as bilateral understand­ing.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said Thursday that Pakistan was providing facilities and ease of doing business opportunit­ies to foreign investors. The prime minister is in Dushanbe to attend a Shanghai Cooperatio­n Organisati­on summit. Addressing an event where businessme­n from Pakistan and Tajikistan were in attendance, the premier said he wanted to speak to a joint gathering of businessme­n from both countries.

"I believe we have representa­tives of 67 Pakistani companies here in Dushanbe. They come from different fields, including textiles, pharmaceut­icals, and logistics," he added.

The prime minister lamented that the cost of electricit­y was too high in Pakistan. "We want the KASA 1,000 energy project to be completed soon," he said. "There are lots of opportunit­ies related to the clean energy projects in Tajikistan." He extended an invite to Tajikistan's businessme­n to invest in Pakistan, adding that the Pakistani government was creating opportunit­ies and removing hurdles for its own business community as well.

"We will provide every help possible to investors in Pakistan," said the prime minister. PM Imran Khan briefly spoke on the Afghanista­n issue, saying that peace in the country was vital for the region's progress.

The prime minister arrived in Tajikistan Thursday on a two-day official visit to attend the 20th Shanghai Cooperatio­n Organisati­on Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) meeting in Dushanbe. Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda received PM Imran Khan at the airport.
