Air Niugini rolls out training overseas

-

Air Niugini has extended its dangerous goods training to include other organisations in the Pacific, starting with Pohnpei in Micronesia and Port Vila in Vanuatu.

Dangerous goods are articles or substances that pose hazards to health, safety, property or environment.

Air Niugini non-technical training instructor Martin Tugano, who conducted the training, says there was positive feedback with overwhelming interest.

There were 33 participants at the Port Vila training, from organisations such as Vanuatu Terminal Services, the Civil Aviation Authority Vanuatu and Aviation Vanuatu.

Tugano says there have been requests for more training to include other stakeholders such as freight forwarders, hospitals and small airlines.

Air Niugini has scheduled 24 dangerous goods training sessions this year.

“Everyone in the transport chain must do their job properly when shipping these (dangerous) goods,” Tugano says.

“Transportation of dangerous goods by air is very restricted and therefore I encouraged those companies who require dangerous goods training to contact Air Niugini’s training centre.”
