A DAY FOR DACHSHUNDS
It’s raining cats and dachies!
Dachshund enthusiasts braved the heavy rains to attend the first Grand Eyeball organized by Dachshund Enthusiasts in the Philippines (DEP) at the Mandaluyong City Hall Complex. DEP gathered the biggest number of dachshund enthusiasts under one roof to promote the preservation of the breed in the Philippines. During the get-together, the group advocated responsible breeding and educated the participants about breed standards.
“A number of dachshunds with an assortment of coats, colors, and patterns were showcased in the event. [Every enthusiast] needs to study the genetics of the breed to come up with a breeding decision that will guarantee positive results," said DEP Group Administrator Richard Limon.
The University of the Philippines (UP) Alpha Chiron Society did a presentation on rabies awareness while the Department of Environment and Natural Resources– Bureau of Animal Industry highlighted their anti-rabies vaccination program. Petdentity introduced pet microchipping to the attendees. Meanwhile, the Philippine Canine Club, Inc. provided services, including free membership, registration, renewals, and listing of unregistered dogs. Participants mobbed UP Alpha Chiron Society’s booth, which gave free health check-ups to dachshunds, proving how the health of their furry companions was a top priority. Mandaluyong City Councilor Charisse Marie Abalos-vargas, also a dog lover, welcomed the members of DEP and the rest of the guests. Cat and Dog Fashionistas, a group that promotes responsible pet parenting through stylish canine and feline couture, headed the pet fashion show with a pet wedding theme. “Despite the inclement weather, DEP members, guests, sponsors, and the visiting public-flocked the venue, filled the rafters, and defied the dismal weather forecast of the day,” said Limon. While dachshunds had their fun at the eating contest sponsored by Top Breed, their human companions received freebies and loot bags provided by sponsors.
