TINALO ng indie veteran na si Angeli Bayani ang megastar na si Sharon Cuneta sa Best Actress category sa katatapos na awarding rites ng 13th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival & Competition na ginanap sa Tanghalang Nicanor Abellardo ng Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) nitong Linggo ng gabi.
Napanalunan ni Angeli ang Balanghai trophy for Best Actress dahil sa kanyang epektibong pagganap bilang OFW na pinagdudahang nagtapon ng newly born baby sa trash bin ng isang airline sa social drama na Bagahe ni Zig Dulay.
Itinanghal namang Best Actor ang 13-year old former The Voice Kids finalist at bida sa Kiko Boksingero na si Noel Comia, Jr. beating the highly favored Abra for his role in the hip-hop movie na Respeto na pinarangalan namang Best Film sa Cinemalaya 2017.
Ang bet naming si Dido de la Paz ( Respeto), who play a Martial Law poet, ang nagkamit ng Best Supporting Actor award, samantalang nakuha naman ni Yayo Aguila ( Kiko Boksingero) ang tropeo para sa Best Supporting Actress beating Moi Bien for her sterling performance in Ang Pamilyang ‘ Di Lumuluha ni Mes de Guzman.
Nawagi ng Best Film ang Respeto pero ibinigay naman ng jury ang Best Director award kay Joseph Israel Laban para sa kanyang pelikulang Baconaua.
Lima ang bumubuo ng festival jury (main competition), sina Padmashri Dr. Girish Kasaravalli, Freddie Wong, Sheron Dayoc, Lee Briones-Meily at Joselito “Lito” B. Zulueta.
Ang NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema) jury naman ay kinabibilangan nina Ismail Basbeth, Tsengel Davaasambuu at Ricardo “Ricky” Lee.
