Palasyo: ‘Di ipinagdadamot ang spot reports

Nilinaw kahapon ng Malacañang na walang kinalaman si Pangulong Duterte sa sinasabing utos ng Philippine National Police (PNP) na ipagbawal sa mga miyembro ng media ang mga spot report ng pulisya.

Ito ay makaraang mapaulat na si PNP chief Director Gen. Ronald dela Rosa ang nagbaba ng nasabing utos, kasunod ng kontrobersiya sa pagpatay sa tatlong teenager—na isinisisi sa mga pulis—noong nakaraang buwan.

Ayon kay Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan, nilinaw na ng PNP sa Palasyo ang nasabing report.

“We were informed by the PNP that the policy is the same as before. So our reporters, journalists, may still be able to retrieve blotters and other reports,” sinabi ni Ablan sa Mindanao Hour/ Bangon Marawi press briefing kahapon ng umaga. “Nothing has changed. It's still the same as status quo.”

Itinanggi rin ni PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos na nagpalabas si dela Rosa ng bagong direktiba na nagbabawal sa access ng mga mamamahayag sa mga spot report ng pulisya.

“Currently, the PNP is adhering to the existing memorandum issued on February 18, 2014 which conform to the policies for media relations during the conduct criminal investigations. Such memorandum clearly indicates there is no prohibition on the access of the public or media to the information from the police blotter,” sabi ni Chief Supt. Carlos.

Nilinaw naman ni Carlos na ang paglalabas ng mga spot report ay nakadepende sa public information officer o sa tagapagsalita ng police district. Maglalaban, aniya, ang PNP ng mga press release, news release, at press statement.

Bukod sa iba’t ibang media organization, pinalagan din nina Senators Bam Aquino at Ping Lacson ang nasabing polisiya, na hindi lamang isang paglabag sa freedom of the press kundi maging sa Freedom of Information (FOI) na isinusulong ni Pangulong Duterte.
