Libreng internet, dapat ituloy ng kapalit ni Salalima

Sinabi ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto kahapon na hindi dapat na maapektuhan ng pagbibitiw ni Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Rodolfo Salalima ang implementasyon ng mga proyekto at reporma sa ahensiya.

“After power and water, broadband is the third utility, and that importance is reflected in the national budget, which authorizes billions of pesos in making internet fast, free and fair,” pahayag ni Recto.

“So I hope that the Department of Information and Communications Technology, despite being the youngest department, has a deep talent pool from where Secretary Salalima’s replacement will be picked so there will be no service interruption,” dugtong niya.

Hinimok ni Recto si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte “to make sure that the new DICT secretary he appoints will not only be able to realize this campaign promise of his but also work in making internet fast and reliable.”

Binigyang-diin ni Recto na mahalagang maayos na magamit ang panukalang P6.9 bilyong budget ng DICT para sa 2018 na taon, na dinoble mula sa P3.6B ngayong taon.

Sa budget na ito P1.74 B ang ilalaan para sa implementasyon ng nilagdaang Free Internet Access in Public Places Act na sisimulan sa susunod na taon.

DELICADEZA Kinumpirma kahapon ni Pangulong Duterte ang pagbibitiw ni Salalima.

Nangyari ito harap ng nakatakdang pagpapatupad ng DICT sa P77.9-B national broadband project na para magkaloob ng Internet service sa unserved o underserved na lugar sa bansa.

Sinabi ni Duterte, sa ikalima niyang pagbisita sa Marawi City, Lanao del Sur nitong Huwebes ng gabi, sa mga mamamahayag na nagbitiw si Salalima “out of delicadeza” at dahil sa “conflict of interest”.

Sinabi rin ng Pangulo na hindi pa niya nakakausap si Salalima ngunit nagpahiwatig na tatanggapin niya ang resignation nito at naghahanap na siya ng “best guy” para maging kapalit ng unang DICT secretary.

Si Salalima, schoolmate ni Duterte sa San Bada College of Law, ang nagpursige ng implementasyon ng libreng free WiFi project sa EDSA noong Hunyo.

Ayon kay Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, binanggit ni Salalima na personal at work-related ang mga dahilan ng pagbitiw nito matapos ang 14 buwang pagsisilbi sa Gabinete.

Sa Mindanao Hour/Bangon Marawi press briefing sa Malacañang kahapon ng umaga, sinabi ni Abella na ibinigay ni Salalima ang pagbibitiw nito dalawang linggo na ang nakalipas.

“He used to work with another IT company. So I think to avoid being misconstrued, and I think he submitted his resignation,” aniya.
