Impeachment ni Sereno ihahabol sa Christmas break

Sisikapin ng chairman ng House Committee on Justice na maendorso ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno para pagbotohan ng plenary bago magsara ang Kongreso para sa isang buwang Christmas break.

Hinimok din ni Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali si Sereno na humarap sa House panel upang personal niyang ma-cross-examine ang mga saksi, kahit na tiniyak niya na igagalang nila ang mga karapatan ng Chief Justice sa impeachment proceedings.

“As the chair of the Committee on Justice ay parang binibigyan ko yong aking sarili ng self imposed deadline na December po. Yong bago po kami mag-break ng Pasko ay ‘yan po ay hopefully matapos na namin,” aniya sa isang panayam sa radyo.

“That’s my personal target, to finish the report and to submit the Articles of the Impeachment to the plenary for voting,” ani Umali.

Sinabi niya na dahil nakapaghain na ang abogadong si Larry Gadon ng kanyang kasugutan sa 85- pahinang verified answer ni Sereno, na pinabubulaanan ang 27 alegasyon ni Gadon sa reklamong impeachment, mayroong tatlong araw si Sereno para maghain ng kanyang rejoinder.

Sinabi ng lider ng Kamara na sakaling matanggap nila ang rejoinder ni Sereno ngayong araw, Oktubre 2, posibleng maitakda ng kanyang komite ang pagdinig sa Huwebes o sa Lunes ng susunod na linggo.

“If she (Sereno) will come, the panel may allow her to confront the witnesses subject to the approval of the members. One thing is for sure, her rights will be respected,” ani Umali.

“Kapag ang naging botohan namin will be for sufficiency of grounds, then we will go to hearings. Then that’s when the complainant and respondent (Sereno) will be invited to present their case,” aniya.
