PH forces sasanayin ng Australia sa urban warfare

Sasanayin ng Australia ang mga sundalong Pilipino sa urban warfare para malabanan ang pag-usbong at paglaganap ng Islamic extremism matapos ang ilang buwan ng matinding pakikipagdigma sa mga militante sa katimugan ng Pilipinas.

Sa pahayag kahapon bilang bahagi ng Philippines-Australia Joint Press Conference sa sidelines ng 4th ASEAN Defense Ministers Meeting-Plus (ADMMPlus) sa Clark, Pampanga, sinabi ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na bukod sa urban warfare, tutulong din ang Australia sa airspace coordination, maritime operations, at iba pa.

“Truly, the fight against global terror cannot be addressed by one country alone, and we are very nuch appreciative of Australia’s support for our counterterrorism program,” ani Lorenzana.

“All nations must learn from the recent Marawi conflict and the Philippines’ experience,” wika ni Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne.

Tumagal ng 154-araw ang digmaan para sa Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. Ayon sa Armed Forces of the Philippines, 920 militante, 165 sundalo at pulis at 45 sibilyan ang nasawi sa digmaan, at mahigit 300,000 mamamayan ang lumikas.

Nagkaloob ang Australia, kasama ang United States, Singapore at China, ng mga armas at technical support, kabilang ang surveillance aircraft.

Ang krisis sa Marawi ay nagbunsod ng mga pangamba na nais ng mga loyalist ng Islamic State (ISIS) na gamitin ang Mindanao bilang base para sa mga aktibidad nito sa Southeast Asia.

“The practical training the Australian Defence Forces (ADF) will provide will ensure the Philippines defense force is better able to counter the brutal tactics being employed by terrorists,” ani Payne sa news conference.

“The spread of Daesh-inspired (Islamic State) terrorism is a direct threat to Australia and its interests and we are committed to working with our partners and allies to ensuring Daesh cannot establish a geographic foothold in the region.”

Ikinalugod ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Spokesman Maj. Gen. Restituto Padilla ang tulong ng Australia sa pagsasanay ng mga sundalong Pinoy sa urban warfare.

“This is a welcome development because of experiences that we need, because of the kind of combat environment that we need to face in the future such as in Marawi,” ani Padilla sa isang panayam.

Sinabi ni Padilla na ilang Australian forces na inatasang magsanay sa mga sundalong Pinoy ay nasa bansa na. “Actually nandito na sila,” aniya.
