Digong kinilalang ‘leader of the developing world’

DA NANG, Vietnam – Kinilala si Pangulong Duterte bilang “leader of the developing world” matapos hamunin ang mayayamang bansa na tulungan ang mga napag-iiwanang bansa.

Ito ang ibinalita ni Presidential spokesman Harry Roque sa pakikiisa ng Pangulo sa huling araw ng Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit sa Vietnam kung saan matindi niyang sinuportahan ang inclusive growth sa pandaigdigang kalakaran.

“I think the President has proven that he is not just the leader of the Philippines, he’s not just the Chairman of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) but he is a recognized leader for the rest of the developing world when he called that globalization should result in benefits for all,” sabi ni Roque sa press conference sa International Media Center dito.

“He specifically addressed members of the APEC to seek measures to assist those who have been left behind because of the process of globalization,” dagdag niya.

Sinabi ni Pangulong Duterte, sa kanyang talumpati sa APEC Business Advisory Council, na sinira ng globalisasyon ang mahihirap na bansa at nanawagan ng “remedial measures” upang maiayos ang sitwasyon.

“While some countries, mostly the rich countries have been promoting free trade, that they appeared to be encouraging restrictions to trade somehow on some aspects,” sabi ng Pangulo.

“So he therefore stated that for allinclusive growth, globalization must result to benefits for all, rich and poor countries alike,” dagdag niya.

Samantala, maaaring magsilbing “pathfinder” at “hub” ang ASEAN para sa Asia-Pacific region kaugnay ng mga pagsisikap sa pagpapalaganap ng regional economic integration, ipinahayag ni Pangulong Duterte nitong Biyernes.

Sa inaugural dialogue sa pagitan ng ASEAN at ng APEC nitong Biyernes dito, isinulong ng Pangulo ang mas magandang pagtutulungan sa pagitan ng dalawang regional blocs upang pamahalaan ang mas bukas na kalakaran, mas maunlad na negosyo, palaganapin ang maayos na ugnayan, at iba pa.

“I see two initial ways that ASEAN strengthens APEC. Inspired by APEC’s model of open regionalism, ASEAN has opened the door wider to the eventual achievement of liberalized trade in Asia and the Pacific,” sinabi ng Pangulo.

“Collaborating with APEC on common areas of interest, ASEAN can potentially play the role of a regional pathfinder for APEC’s initiatives. ASEAN can also serve as APEC’s institutional memory and provide consistency to APEC’s role as an incubator of ideas and driver of regional economic growth and integration,” dagdag niya.

“An integrated region like ASEAN, which has developed the tools to achieve this, is a good place to start,” sabi ni Duterte.
