Programa sa boxers, paiigtingin ng GAB

IGINIIT ng Games and Amusements Board (GAB) na ipupursige ng ahensiya ang pagpapalakas sa programa para mas matulungan ang mga Pinoy fighters na maging matagumpay sa international fight.

“We’ll double our efforts so that there will always be fellow Filipinos who’ll bring home pride and glory as the most competitive boxers worldwide in all divisions where they qualify,” pahayag ni GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil “Baham” Mitra.

Kamakailan, tinanghal ang GAB bilang Best Boxing Commission ng World Boxing Council (WBC) sa isinagawang pagpupulong sa Azerbaijan.

Nakuha ng GAB ang paghanga ng WBC sa pagbibigay ng libreng CT scan, medical at laboratory tests para sa mga professional boxers.

Umani rin ng papuri si Mitra, pangulo rin ng Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF), sa kanyang gabay sa mga fighters, kabilang si reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super bantamweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas na inamahan niya sa Malacañang para sa ‘courtesy call’ kay pangulong Rody Duterte nitong December 5.

Kasama rin sa pagdirawang sina GAB Commissioners Eduard Trinidad at Mar Masanguid, Ancajas’ trainer-manager Joven Jimenez at WBO International minimumweight champion Mark Anthony Barriga.

Naidepensa ni Ancajas (28W-1L-1D, 19 KOs) ang titulo sa ikatlong pagkakataon nang pabagsakin si Irish challenger Jamie Conlan nitong November 18 sa SSE Arena sa Belfast.

Nakatakda niyang labanan sa February 3 si Mexican Israel Gonzalez (21W-1L-0D, 8 KOs) sa Bank of America Center sa Corpus Christi, Texas.

“President Duterte himself is a true fan and attends fights featuring Filipinos. Ancajas’ road to Malacanang brings personal pride to the President,” pahayag ni Mitra.

“The courtesy call highlights President Duterte’s personal recognition of a fellow Dabawenyo’s contribution to Philippine Boxing. Jerwin’s visit to Malacañang breaks the nostalgia of Heroes Hall for the glory days of Filipino boxing,” aniya.
